How to take care of your solid wood furniture complete guide, how to, know how, diy, home decor

There’s an undeniable charm that solid wood furniture brings to any space. The intricate grains, the natural hues, and the very aura of nature it resonates. But, much like anything of value, solid wood furniture requires care to maintain its beauty and integrity over time. As artisans passionate about the craft at MEIE, we're here to share with you some indispensable tips to ensure your wooden pieces remain as magnificent as the day you first laid eyes on them.

1. Avoid Direct Sunlight

While natural light can brighten up any room, direct sunlight can fade and age your wooden furniture prematurely. It's a good idea to place your furniture away from direct sunlight or use blinds and curtains to filter harsh rays.

2. Dust Regularly

Fine particles can accumulate and scratch the surface over time. Gently dusting your furniture with a soft cloth or a feather duster can prevent this.

3. Avoid liquids

Wood expands and contracts with moisture. Too much humidity can warp the wood, while too little can cause it to crack. Best practise is to avoid direct contact with liquids. While cleaning it with a wet cloth is fine. Don't let liquids stay on your wood for a longer period.

4. Use Coasters and Mats

Always use coasters for glasses and mugs to prevent moisture rings. Mats and trivets can safeguard against hot dishes or cookware.

5. Clean Spills Immediately

Spilled liquids can stain or warp the wood. If something spills, wipe it up immediately with a soft, dry cloth.

6. Gentle Cleaning

For a deeper clean, use a slightly damp cloth and then immediately wipe it down with a dry one. Avoid all-purpose sprays unless they’re specifically designed for wood.

7. Consider Using Furniture Pads

The legs of furniture can cause scratches, especially on wooden floors. Using felt pads or rubber cups can be an excellent preventative measure.

8. Natural Polish

Every once in a while, treat your furniture to a gentle polish using natural beeswax to keep it looking lustrous. Avoid silicone-based sprays as they can degrade the wood finish over time. Some of our products actually come with its original oil. So you can sand it and then oil it over. Your product will look brand new again. Find directions on our page About -> Care and Maintances

Solid wood furniture is more than just a piece of decor; it's an investment, a story, and a legacy. With these tips, you ensure that your MEIE furniture not only stands the test of time but continues to be a centerpiece of conversations and memories.
